Nice Break, Now it's Back to Business

Posted on December 06, 2013

There is a good feeling around the team and around the city. The Wizards have a chance to go above .500 in December for the first time since 2007 with a win tonight against the Milwaukee Bucks at Verizon Center. Adding to the Wizards' impressive run of seven wins in 10 games, Bradley Beal has missed the last five games with a stress injury to his right leg. Beal is still the Wizards' leading scorer, but despite his absence, the Wizards won four of five games.

Today's Wizards Report is on approach and playing without Beal.

LISTEN:

To the Wizards' credit, the offensive production has stayed consistent in Beal's absence.

Defense has been the key:

The Wizards are 10 points better on defense over the last 10 games, holding opponents to 94.7 points per game.

And from my number cruncher Jacob Raim:

On offense the efficiency is up and FT% is way up.  This could be explained by limiting possessions and playing more in control as they are taking 10 less shots per game, but only making one less shot per game.   One offensive stat that has improved significantly from the first nine games  is True Shooting Percentage which has seen an uptick by over 3%.  True shooting % is a stat that takes into account the value of 3 pointers and free throws and is measured by points/(2*(fields goals attempted + .44*FT attempted).

 From the corner:

The Wizards have been an efficient three-point shooting team this year, but  it’s in the corners where they really shine.  They actually get corner threes at about league average, but hit them well above, making about 48% of them.

Wizards on a Roll, Screen and Roll

December 05, 2013

This winning is fun. At times it has been dramatic. We have seen the amazing, but the Wizards are doing a better job of keeping it simple.
