Keys and Musings vs OKC

Posted on February 01, 2014

Coming off the West Coast road trip, the Wizards need to lock in on a few areas to knock off the red hot Thunder:

Here are some Keys: We never go Offense first, so, this is a first:

  • 3 Pt shooting: The Wizards need to get consistency back from 3, Ariza, Webster, Beal, and Wall must be able to keep OKC's D honest as OKC likes to funnel shooters off the line into the paint where KD and Ibaka await
  • Spacing and Ball Movement will help with the above, but will also allow John to create and get into the paint.  Wall must attack, create and find shooters
  • Do not settle for "QUICK" Jump Shots
  • Attack Thunder Front Court players

Now for the D:

  • Transition D: all 5 not just the guards
  • Make KD a passer, he can get 50, back-playing at home, help and recover
  • Then stop the others, Ibaka can not go for 25pts on 12-12 shooting
  • Avoid Defensive Lulls: OKC will strike hard and fast, and the  Wizards must fight through these periods
  • Set the D tone early, and sustain great D intensity for 48 minutes
